Historic Building Analysis
Most historic buildings do not come with an instruction manual. Preservationists must learn to understand a building’s history by “reading” its component elements: architectural style, iconography, structural system, building materials, typology, and construction methods. Each of these elements provides clues about when the building was constructed and how it was used.
