Mural Paintings - Church of San Giovanni Battista , San Gemini
The following images are small patches of mural paintings that can be seen in the interior of the Church of San Giovanni Battista. At the beginning of the 20th C. the interior of the church was entirely white washed covering a series of mural decorations mostly made in the 18th century after the 1703 earthquake that damaged the church. In the late 20th Century perhaps during or after the 1973 restoration of the mediaeval facade a series of patches removing the whitewash were made to study the nature of the mural decorations under the whitewash. The following images are some of the more significant of these patches.
